It’s been a turbulent year for the governments of both Asheville and Buncombe County.
The county has been rocked by the indictment of former county manager Wanda Greene and her son on charges of fraud and embezzlement. With more indictments possible, the aftershocks from that case are still being felt.
Meantime, Asheville is still struggling with accusations of racial bias aimed at its police department. – including police surveillance of civil rights groups and the videotaped beating of an African-American man who was stopped for jaywalking.
At Leadership Asheville Forum’s August 22nd Critical Issues event, Asheville Mayor Esther Manheimer and County Commission Chair Brownie Newman are expected to address those and other challenges.
We hope you can join us.
