Dr. Rob Jackson
Superintendent, Buncombe County Schools
A Swannanoa native and decorated educator, Dr. Jackson has held superintendent roles in multiple NC districts before returning home to lead Buncombe County Schools in 2022. He is a former NC State Principal of the Year, Navy veteran, and a recipient of numerous statewide leadership awards. His inspiring journey from custodian to superintendent reflects his deep commitment to education and community.
Dr. Maggie Fehrman
Superintendent, Asheville City Schools
Appointed in 2023, Dr. Fehrman brings a wide range of educational leadership experience to Asheville. She previously served as Superintendent of Decatur City Schools in Georgia and has held roles from classroom teacher to assistant superintendent, giving her deep insight into both instructional strategy and district-level planning.
Geoff Coltrane
Senior Director of Government Affairs and Strategy, NC Department of Public Instruction
With nearly 25 years in education and policy, Geoff Coltrane serves as a key strategic leader at the state level. A former education advisor to Governor Roy Cooper and early childhood teacher in Durham, Coltrane brings deep understanding of both education policy and on-the-ground school experience.
This panel will share key updates, challenges, and opportunities facing our public schools—and offer insight into where education is heading next across Asheville, Buncombe County, and the state of North Carolina.
